The ISDA Festival

The Irish Student Drama Association Festival is truly one of the most exciting theatre events that takes place in Ireland every year. With so many productions taking place in the one week, the festival is a hub of life and enthusiasm. The festival dating back to its debut all of 63 years ago has been the starting point for some of the finest talents that Irish theatre has produced, for example Conor McPherson, Paulinne McLynn, Fiona Shaw and countless others. The ISDA festival offers the participants a chance to showcase their potential and gives the public a chance to experience these up and coming artists at a crucial stage of development in their careers.

65 years - launch of a second ISDA festival

Due to the great success of the current festival, and in celebration of its 65th anniversary The Irish student drama association is launching a second annual festival, which will occur in first academic term. The festival will not be as large as the current festival, focusing mainly on friendly integration, sharing ideas and socialising. Workshops in a number of different theatrical disciplines (acting, production, tech etc.) will be organised. Unlike the current festival, the ISDA council will have a larger role in organising the new festival, which will take place over a weekend. The festival will be held in the college which will host the larger festival the following year, in order to give the members a taste of the city that will host the ISDA Festival. This will give all our members especially the smaller societies a taste of the wealth of student theatre in Ireland.

ISDA Festival 2012

Now in its 65th year, the annual theatre festival of the Irish Student Drama Association (ISDA) was hosted by the University College Dublin Dramatic Society (UCD Dramsoc) on its very own Belfield campus. Beginning on the 21st of March and continuing to the end of the month (31st), the festival provided talks and workshops on drama, as well as showcasing the finest theatre that Irish colleges have to offer. There was an average of 3 shows per day in one of the festivals 3 primary venues, with other Fringe productions being put on in other locations around the UCD campus.
